The duo behind the YouTube Channel H3H3 Productions is being sued for alleged copyright infringement by Matt Hosseinzadeh, who runs a moderately successful YouTube channel. Ethan and Hilla Klein who runs a YouTube comedy channel, posted a reaction video containing parts of one of HossZone’s pickup-and-parkour recordings. Matt believes that the reaction video infringes on the copyright of his original video and sent a lawyer after the company.

H3H3 claims that it all began with a few demands by Hoss’s lawyer like the removal of the infringing video, sign a release and confidentiality agreement, and pay $3,750 that was spent on legal fees.

As the kleins refused to comply to the demands, they received another ultimatum that H3H3 productions can avoid paying by simply posting a video apologizing and promoting Hoss’ videos for a couple of months.

Technically, H3H3 hasn’t broken any copyright laws because it is Fair Use. Fair Use allows people to critique, comment, and criticize copyrighted work. The main problem lies in the fact the Fair Use isn’t well defined in the legal system.

Thousands of people have rallied to support the Kleins and popular YouTube vlogger Philip DeFranco launched a crowd funding campaign for the couple on GoFundMe, and has already collected more than $145,000 to fight the lawsuit.
